Offset the Rest is a New Zealand company, established in response to heightened consumer and commercial awareness of the climate crisis; and a determination on our part to channel that interest and concern effectively.

We are passionate about our beautiful country and are determined to contribute to limiting the impact of global warming.  We aim to create a sustainable future by promoting a fundamental shift in our attitude towards fossil fuels.  We want to see progression towards a low carbon economy functioning on renewable and efficient energy.

At Offset the Rest we provide you with services that meet the highest international standards.  For that reason we prefer to invest in Gold Standard projects as they meet our very strict project criteria; have sustainable development benefits and guaranteed environmental integrity.

We are also determined to provide robust tools and resources to enable you to measure your carbon footprint.  Our online calculator has been developed especially for us by Cawthron, whose scientific knowledge and expertise is also available to help you calculate your company's emissions.  Our calculator and any assessment that Cawthron performs of your carbon footprint is in accordance with the highest internationally accepted standards and protocols.

We belong to the Sustainable Business Network and support their focus to advance and embed sustainable business practices.  We operate our own company in a sustainable manner.  We are currently establishing an independent advisory board to provide ethical oversight and ensure the continuing integrity of our commercial and environmental practices.

Jane graduated from Canterbury University with an LLB(Hons)/BA.  For the last 12 years Jane has worked first as a lawyer for one of New Zealand’s leading law firms, and subsequently as a Commercial Manager for Telecom NZ Limited.  Over this time she has experienced living in a number of different places throughout New Zealand and overseas.

Melissa returned to New Zealand from the UK in 2004 with six years experience as a Risk Manager for an international investment bank, focusing on resource finance in emerging markets.  Prior to leaving for the UK, Melissa was employed for seven years by a high profile New Zealand bank as both an Auditor and Commercial Account Manager.

Cawthron is an internationally renowned scientific institute that has been contributing to sustainable resource management for over 80 years and offers independent, reputable and unbiased advice on sustainability issues.  Cawthron's Sustainable Business Group provides research-based solutions to government agencies and some of New Zealand's largest businesses to help them develop and stay on sustainable pathways.

We utilise Cawthron's services to add scientific and commercial integrity to the carbon neutral certification process.  Cawthron brings expertise in measuring and managing carbon emissions, and an indepth understanding of emissions trading and climate policy, to complement our expertise in carbon offsetting and certification of carbon neutrality.
